Marketing My Day To-Do Part 3 - Campaign with Bing Ads

Bing Ads was something that I signed up for sometime last year (2016) but with paid advertising being a lower priority for my startup last year, meant that I could not make use of it at the time. This year I finally got around using Bing Ads to create an ad to promote My Day To-Do  and in this post I will talk about it. This post will have the following, anatomy of a Bing Ads ad campaign according to me number of Ad campaigns that I ran or My Day To-Do using Bing Ads total amount spent and outcomes of those ad campaigns? whether or not the ad campaigns were worth it? future marketing goals of My Day To-Do Before moving on, I should mention that Bing Ads is easy to use and the Bing Ads team at Microsoft are quite helpful and happy to walk you through creating your first ad campaign over the phone. Background I concluded my previous posts on Facebook marketing ( boosting a post and  page promotion ) by mentioning that my next step for promoting My Day T...

What is App Store Optimization (Optimisation)? and how to explain it to someone

As I have talked about in my previous post , my startup My Day To-Do has grown to the point that I have to consider getting some marketing help (get marketing interns). Now,  App Store Optimisation(ASO)  is a (relatively) new concept and I cannot expect the marketing intern to know about it, therefore I must prepare for the possibility to explain it to them. In this post I will outline my process of explaining ASO to the marketing intern working with me at  My Day To-Do . I will not be explaining what ASO is but rather my four step method of helping someone understand what ASO with the use of some online reading material and real world examples. Background It was only when I released my first mobile (iOS) app that I actually got to know about App Store Optimisation(ASO) and how? well it's a little hard for me to remember exactly what it was? but this app launch guide does shed some light into it. Prior to this, I had heard about this thing called SEO (search engi...

Working on a startup alone, time management and preparing an Employee job description

As of 2017 my vision for my app, My Day To-Do has broadened and I plan to expand it to a full fledged product (startup) rather than just a app that I built in my spare time. In this blog post, I will talk about My attempt at being more productive than I am for my one man startup Challenges inherent to time management Preparing a job description to find someone to come onboard Managing areas outside my expertise So without further a due, let's get to the post. Hopefully some of you reading this can learn something from my experiences. Background The year 2016, despite some personal challenges was actually quite good for me and while there were no monetary gains for me, I did manage to increase downloads for My Day To-Do and the number of monthly page views for my blog. My progress last year was somewhat surprising to me, why? well I was working from home all of last year and while I released a number of updates for my app, wrote several useful blog posts, made a n...

Marketing with Facebook - page promotion final summary Part 2.2

I concluded my previous post  by talking about applying some of my lessons learned from that first ad campaign to my next campaign. In this short blog post, I will be talking about my next ad campaign to promote My Day To-Do's Facebook page . So without further a due, lets talk about it Background I initially thought about combining both the first post and this post into a single blog post but I thought with a 2 part post, readers can take their time to read both posts i.e. read the first one, read a logical stopping point and then move on to the next one whenever time permits.  Foundation for campaign 2 The first ad campaign for page likes was quite a success if you consider the number of page likes, but as I discussed in the previous post, it did not help my business structure at this stage. I mean it didn't generate more revenue, cause a download spike or increase the daily active users, so for my next campaign, I decided to streamline things a bit i.e....

Marketing with Facebook - page promotion Part 2.1 (Campaign 1)

In my previous post , I talked about how I tried marketing my app by boosting a post on my app's Facebook page. I wrote about some of my early analysis that and much more, if you want to know more about my previous post, you can read it here . I concluded my previous post by talking about the next step in my marketing efforts which was to promote the Facebook page for My Day To-Do. I ran two ad campaigns to promote my FB page which I will discuss here. I will talk about in detail about the first ad campaign I ran for the page promotion, the number of likes I got as a result of it and whether or not I think I got any downloads as a result of it? I will also share my thoughts on what I think of this sort marketing approach and is worth it for someone who's selling an iOS app. Background Following on from my previous post and given just how easy it was to get a marketing campaign going, I thought let me give this another try and perhaps refine my approach for better result...

Marketing with Facebook Part 1 - boosting a Facebook post

In the past couple of months, I have done something that I have wanted to do for the last year or so since I released My Day To-Do , some paid MARKETING. In this post, I will share some thoughts on the marketing platforms I considered, some results and analysis from my Facebook marketing campaign.  Background Ever since I started working on my app on a full-time basis, social interactions have often proved challenging. Hmm, let me try and explain that with an example, I was at a party where I met someone the conversation led to the inevitable "what do you do?"so I replied "it's been a few months since I left my full-time job to work on my app". Once I clarified what my app is, I was given a ton of suggestions on what I should do (including marketing) with my app to achieve success. Now the person telling me obviously meant well, but I already knew of every suggestion that I was given and it was already on my to-do list. To-Do list, get it? sigh, ok may...

My new years eve plans and how I managed to boost my apps downloads

It's new years eve and this is perhaps the last day I am offering My Day To-Do for free on the app store. I started offering My Day To-Do for free as a holiday offer from 24th of Dec, 2016 to 1st of January 2017. Since then I have seen a significant spike in downloads with a majority of the downloads coming from China. This is awesome, as unlike it's free sibling My Day To-Do Lite , My Day To-Do pro version hasn't seen that many downloads, so this is a great way to get it to a wider audience. Why did I offer my app for free? App Analytics in iTunesConnect told me that there were a number of "product page views" for My Day To-Do on the App Store, so I realised that one of the obstacles for people from downloading the app could be the $4.49aud price tag. Hence I decided to remove that obstacle for some time and in doing so I was hoping to get some user feedback or to get people to leave a review on the App Store. What do I think contributed to the download...
