Using relatable stories to market to the target demographic

Over the last few months, I tried something different...at least for my startup. I tried to market to the target demographic via a set of fictional stories that they could relate to. The most unique aspect of this marketing initiative was that in both these posts, there was no direct mention of My Day To-Do, but subtle hints to the features it offers.  I followed up writing those posts with corresponding Facebook ad campaigns, to know those in more details. If you want to know more about it, you can read my post on the My Day To-Do blog Marketing to the target demographic with stories If you find my blog posts useful and want to support me, you can  Buy the pro version of  My Day To-Do  - it's cheaper at this stage Download the  Lite (free) version  and unlock one of it's IAPs Or give our app I was there , that aims to simplify texting a try Whichever version you try, if you leave us an App Store review that would really help.

Free marketing through Instagram and YouTube video uploads

I realise that it has taken me some time to write a new blogpost and the reason being, there's a lot happening right now and my brain is juggling between one to many disparate things. Some of these things are An attempt at free marketing via uploading app tutorial videos on Instagram and YouTube and hoping they would go viral or generate some buzz How a meeting with a marketing expert made us realise that building a more professional company website should be out top priotity Ok without further a due, let's get started by talking about free marketing FREE Marketing As of the last 3 to 4 weeks, I have started using Instagram quite a bit i.e. one of the trainers at my gym asked me to get on Instagram and I was like "sure why not", I could potentially share pictures taken with our new FREE app, I was there . Once I started using Instagram  (Insta), I just realised how easy it is to share media (picture or video) on it. Sharing soon became a regular thing...

Trying to generate revenue in a startup(mobile app based)

My Day To-Do  has been in business for almost three years now and at this point it's an app available on iOS app store and like any business it needs to generate some revenue to be a sustainable business. Is My Day To-Do a financially sustainable business right now? NO, not at all and that is why in the last few months I have taken a few steps to try and change that. In this post I will be taking about some of the initiatives that I took to generate some revenue. These initiatives range from changing the price of the My Day To-Do Pro version to adding in-app purchases in Lite to advertising and all of these have managed to yield some results. In this post I will talk in detail about these initiatives and hopefully any new startup founder can learn something from it. Background I started working on My Day To-Do when I was recovering from my accident that gave me a traumatic brain injury  after which I had to learn how to walk followed by separation from the woman ...

Marketing by App Install ads on Facebook (Promoting My Day To-Do)

In November 2017, I wanted to boost downloads of the Pro version of My Day To-Do , so I did (conducted) a little experiment. It was at this time that I thought of giving Facebook marketing another go for My Day To-Do . This time I thought of running an ad targeting app installs on Facebook. In this post, I will talk a bit about my background to Facebook marketing, some of my expectations behind this, the eventual outcome of this, my analysis of the results and what to watch out for the next time we run an ad campaign. All in all, I aim to share the lessons I learned from this and what can anyone else learn from my experience. Background Prior to this, I have tried marketing for My Day To-Do with varying amounts of success, you can read some of my posts on it below, Marketing to Chinese consumers Marketing an iOS app with Bing Ads ... and now more specifically the following posts talk about the kind of Facebook marketing that I did at My Day To-Do before, Marketing wi...

Chinese downloads, Firebase, iTunesConnect and a numbers mismatch

In the last few months we have experienced a significant spike in downloads for our app ( My Day To-Do ), a lot of which came from China and all this was very confusing for me at first. App Analytics in iTunesConnect reported the number of people viewing the product page of our app on the App Store was far less the number of downloads? What was equally confusing was the data being reported in our App Analytics platform (Firebase Analytics), did not match the download numbers? My frustration and confusion lead me to embark on a journey to solve this mystery once and for all. I managed to gather enough knowledge and clues to draw a logical conclusion and formulate a theory that satisfies me to a point that this is no longer my concern. In this blog post, I will share my theory in greater detail and try to justify it based on a few facts and I can only hope it satisfies others confused by all of this. Background I have talked about my efforts to capture the Chinese market in my...

Marketing to Chinese consumers

China is one of the most important markets in the world and one of my goals with My Day To-Do is to generate a solid active user-base in China. Lately I have doubled my my efforts to expand further into that market, that lead to this month when I (we) have had a rather significant and entirely believable spike in downloads from China. In this post I will be talking about some of the things that I (we) have done, am doing and will be doing to keep the momentum. p.s. the spike is not like 10,000 daily downloads or so but a steady stream of downloads from the region, read on to know more about the download numbers. Background  How did China become an important market for me? China wasn't always an important market for me, however that changed when I ran a sale on My Day To-Do last Christmas and as I have mentioned in this post , unexpectedly for me, China was the region with the highest number of downloads during that sale period. Ever since that, I have been thinking...

Marketing My Day To-Do Part 3 - Campaign with Bing Ads

Bing Ads was something that I signed up for sometime last year (2016) but with paid advertising being a lower priority for my startup last year, meant that I could not make use of it at the time. This year I finally got around using Bing Ads to create an ad to promote My Day To-Do  and in this post I will talk about it. This post will have the following, anatomy of a Bing Ads ad campaign according to me number of Ad campaigns that I ran or My Day To-Do using Bing Ads total amount spent and outcomes of those ad campaigns? whether or not the ad campaigns were worth it? future marketing goals of My Day To-Do Before moving on, I should mention that Bing Ads is easy to use and the Bing Ads team at Microsoft are quite helpful and happy to walk you through creating your first ad campaign over the phone. Background I concluded my previous posts on Facebook marketing ( boosting a post and  page promotion ) by mentioning that my next step for promoting My Day T...
